The National HGV Driver Shortage and Mail Delivery
Posted on 8th February 2022 at 09:03
With a fleet of over 500 vehicles moving parcels and mail of all types across the UK, Whistl are tackling the national HGV driver shortage by launching a Driver Academy to train and develop future generations of drivers as their business expands further.
Potential HGV drivers will benefit from a multi-layered approach offering HGV Apprenticeships that will appeal to drivers of 18+ with a licence and to those driving vans or working in a warehouse whilst undergoing training. In addition, they will pay for Class 1 training for those with Class 2 licences and will also pay for Driver CPC certificates for HGV1 Classified drivers. The plan is to graduate 100 recruits into the academy in its first year. Mailing houses in particular welcome this news and it will help address concerns about guaranteeing ‘on-time’ delivery of direct mail campaigns.
